Solution studio · examples to test

Five practical starting solutions for the research exercises.

These are deliberately small, testable proposals. Students should not copy them as answers: they should use evidence to decide whether the proposal fits a real person, household, service, or community group.

01 · Challenge

A four-pot first-home budget

Make a first monthly budget feel understandable and usable, not like a lecture about money.

Proposed solution

Create four private budget pots: essentials, flexible spending, irregular costs, and a small buffer. Add a 15-minute weekly check-in rather than waiting for the end of the month.

Why it may work

It makes occasional costs visible and gives the person one manageable habit instead of a complicated finance system.

First test

List the last month’s categories without judgement; choose one category to watch for seven days.

Keep it responsible

This is a planning exercise, not investment, debt, tax, or regulated financial advice.

A good proposal becomes better when it meets reality.

Start with the people affected. Verify the context, ask for consent where needed, protect private information, and change or discard the proposal when the evidence says it will not help.
